John Abbott Obituary

John F. Abbott, Jr.

Leverett, MA — On Sunday, November 28, 2021 John Francis Abbott Jr. (89) of Leverett was called home to Heaven. People who spent time with John knew he loved: Jesus, his Savior; family, most especially Charlotte, his wife of seventy years; and the railroad, where he worked for forty-one years.

After his retirement from Amtrak in 1996, John enjoyed devoting time to researching his family's genealogy and sharing what he learned with his others.

Together, John and Charlotte had five children: Christy Finkbeiner, Susan Scott, Johnny Abbott (Roberta), Charlie Abbott (Janice), and Sarah Abbott along with eleven grandchildren, and eighteen great grandchildren.

People often describe John as a sweet, kind, and gentle man; these attributes were the result of God's incredible life-changing work in him over the past fifty years. While his family will spend the remainder of their days missing this wonderful patriarch of the family, they are both confident in the reunion that will come and comforted in the knowledge that he is in Heaven… and that makes all the difference. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." Ps. 116:15.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

One of my best memories with dad was when I got to go on the train thru the Hoosick Tunnel. It is a mile long, the train cars would rock back and forth, the tops would hit the rock and sparks would fly!! Dad would look at me and laugh, I live near train tracks now and when the engineers blow those horns I know Dad is here!! Love You Dad,, Johnny

Our hearts are heavy, but knowing that my farther is not suffering makes me feel a little better. Being his oldest son was very special, I got to work with him on some of his older vehicles. Dad was a good mechanic it gave me a love for cars and trucks to. I got to fix his ford falcon in high school, it went well until I got it running and got caught by the principal doing burn outs, then I had to tell Dad. Ouch! Oh well you live an learn, I learned a lot about our family history an blood line from Dad, I loved it. My brother Charlie got to find dead Abbott's all over mountains in Mass. an New Hampshire, well to say I Love You Dad is an understatement but I will tell him when I get to heaven with him. I will miss you Dad until then, John M Abbott
