Joseph A. McCormack

Greenfield, MA - Joseph A. "Joe" McCormack, 84, passed away on July 10, 2024, in Greenfield, MA. Born on May 8, 1940, in Springfield, MA, Joe lived a life marked by a passion for the outdoors and a dedication to his family.

Joe retired as a Quarry Supervisor, having worked with Lopke Construction in Binghamton, NY, Ondrick Construction in Chicopee, and Wzorek Construction in Northampton. His work ethic and leadership were highly respected in the construction community.

A member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Greenfield. He also was a proud member of the Independent Order of Scalpers in Lake Pleasant, where he enjoyed the fellowship and club activities.

Joe's hobbies included wood carving, restoring Chris Craft boats, and engaging in various outdoor activities such as racing canoes, kayaking, skiing, hiking, and traveling. These activities reflected his love for adventure and craftsmanship.

He is survived by his wife, Karen (Reil) McCormack; children, Brian McCormack of Enfield, CT, Kelli McCormack and her partner Brandon Sayer of Clearwater, FL, Wayne McCormack and his wife Debra of Somers, CT; stepsons, Shaun Oparowski and his wife Molly McCarthy of Bedford, NH, Todd Oparowski of Greenfield, MA; sister, Terri Goldstein and her husband Stan of Cotuit, MA; grandson Cormac McCarthy of Tampa, FL; granddaughter Hannah McCarthy of Bedford, NH; two great-granddaughters, Zoey and McKayla of South Carolina; and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Alec and Mary, and granddaughter Myndee Harr.

Services will be held on July 27th at Blessed Sacrament Church, 221 Federal St., Greenfield, MA at 11 am. A celebration of life will follow at Scalpers Lodge, 35 Lake Pleasant Dr., Lake Pleasant, MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Independent Order of Scalpers in Joe's (Water Dog) name, honoring his commitment to the organization. Joe's legacy will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew him.

Dear Karen
So very sorry for the passing of Joe. With all the medical issues you helped him deal with and your love and dedication I am sure you helped him live a better life even for a while. Thinking of you during this time. Peggy and I will be on vacation and won´t be home for the services. Just know you are loved.
