Kenneth Howard Walker of Camarillo, California passed away peacefully at home on April 14, 2023, just shy of his 94th birthday. He was born April 26, 1929 to Chester and Frances in New Hampshire.

Ken attended public schools, eventually obtaining his bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Ken served his country overseas where he met the love of his life, Sylvia Cardew of Kent, England. Ken and Sylvia were married in 1953. Returning to the states together, they started a family and raised three children while living in Greenfield and Northfield, Massachusetts.

Following his armed service, Ken was a reporter for this publication, the Greenfield Recorder. He went on to work for the Northfield Mount Hermon Schools, eventually accepting a position as chief editor for the University of Massachusetts. Ken retired in 1994, but remained an active wordsmith throughout his life. His last creative effort was a loving tribute to his wife, Sylvia, on their 70th anniversary, titled "Durability":

The curve of love is long

Touching body and spirit

Time eats away at the physical--

The sights, the sounds,

The sense--

The magic that enthralled my soul

Remains, enchants me still

And cannot ever fade

Ken had many other hobbies, including photography, videography, stamp collecting, lapidary, chess and traveling. He visited every state in the union, but was particularly intrigued by ancient ruins. Mexico was a favorite destination, but he was no stranger to Rome or Peru. He relished a good meal out, and never refused a good dark beer.

Ken was best known, however, for his love of the stage. Whether he was acting, directing, or standing behind the camera, Ken was an active member of the actor's guild in Leisure Village, Camarillo.

Ken is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia Walker of Camarillo, three children, eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother.
