Dover, NH - Nola J. (Mindeman) Gerrits passed away peacefully on December 2 at Johnson Creek Village in Dover, NH. The daughter of Elsie and Arthur Mindeman, she grew up in Blue Island, Illinois. Nola's life was a journey marked by insatiable curiosity, deep love for her family, and a lifelong dedication to education-carrying her from Blue Island to Wisconsin, then to Kenya, Washington, Massachusetts, Vermont, and ultimately to New Hampshire.

A proud graduate of Ripon College, Wisconsin and the University of Massachusetts. Nola devoted more than 25 years to teaching science. She began her teaching career in the Peace Corps in Kenya and later taught at Greenfield Middle School, where she inspired thousands of students. She found tremendous joy in sharing her passion for nature, rock collecting, gardening, hiking, reading and reading. She especially loved fishing with her family at Long Pond, as well as exploring national parks and hidden sites off the beaten path throughout the United States.

Nola was one the kindest, caring and genuine people we have ever known. She was always ready to listen, encourage, and offer support. She taught her children the true meaning of unconditional love, and her legacy lives on in her family who adored her, and the many students whose lives she touched. Most of all, she cherished her visits with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Nola is survived by her children Debbie, Donna, David, DJ and Diane; her 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren and many nieces, cousins, grand-nephews, and grand-nieces. She is predeceased by her husband of 32 years George, her son Thad and her brother Dean.

The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the dedicated staff at Johnson Creek Village and Overlook/Fieldstone, many of whom became part of her family in her final years. Nola's family is extremely grateful for their love, laughter and compassionate care.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in accordance with Nola's wishes.
