Pamela Nicholson Obituary

Pamela Nicholson

Bernardsdton, MA - Pamela (Collins) Nicholson passed away at her home, March 4th, 2024 with her daughters by her side, after a brief period of declining health. Pam was born in Hyannis, MA on September 6, 1942. She was the daughter of Lewis W. And Elizabeth (Hopkins) Collins. Pam grew up in Eastham, MA, spending summers at her family's camp on Nauset Beach. She graduated from Nauset Regional High School and then went on to Keene State College and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Math. It is at Keene where she met her former husband, Bennet M. Nicholson. After teaching in Wethersfield, CT, a brief turn as a Kelly Girl in Flushing, Long Island, and teaching in Surry, NH, Pam accepted a job at Warwick (MA) Elementary School where she taught until Shelley was born. Pam was home to raise her girls while they were young, taking on substitute teaching jobs on occasion. In 1982, Pam began a 6 year job at Pioneer Valley Regional School as a Math Aid. In 1988, she headed to Winchester Elementary School (NH) where she spent 20 years teaching multiple grade levels. Pam was blessed to make lifelong friends through her many years of teaching. In 2008, she happily retired to help care for her young granddaughters. Pam's greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. For 20 years, Pam and her daughters, granddaughters and their families spent a week every August in Wells, Maine. Pam also enjoyed reading, gardening, and going out to breakfast or lunch with her friends. She took pride in her home in Bernardston, where she had lived for 53 years. She spent much of her free time working on home projects and keeping an impeccable yard. Pam was predeceased by her parents, as well as her only sister, Judith A. Stoehr and her husband, Richard Stoehr. She is survived by her children, Shelley Nicholson and her partner Kyle Gaines, and Beth Johnson and her husband Dan Johnson and granddaughters, Sarah and Natalie Johnson. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of life will be held at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Church of Bernardston, 58 Church Street, Bernardston, MA 01337 or Pioneer Valley Hospice & Palliative Care, 329 Conway Street #2, Greenfield, MA 01301.

Pam and I spent countless hours studying in the kitchen in her home just over the Orleans/Eastham line and across from Town Cove. The honking of the geese in the winter time and mugs of hot chocolate with Pam and her mom are special memories for me.

I spent many an hour in the kitchen of the Collins home in Eastham cramming for exams in classes we shared in high school. We were in the first graduating class of Nauset Regional. She was a true friend.

My condolences to Pam´s family. I had the privilege of teaching with her during her time in Winchester. I was one of several, along with Pam, who retired in 2008. I enjoyed working with her and am so sorry to hear this.
