Richard Roth Obituary
South Deerfield, MA - Richard C. Roth, 76, of South Deerfield, MA, passed away on June 29, 2023. He was born in Cambridge, MA on December 31, 1946.
Richard is survived by Deborah his loving wife of 43 years. They spent the last 35 years of their marriage in South Deerfield, MA.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Katie Huray (Matthew) of Arlington, VA, Steven Roth of Providence, RI, and Kelly Roth of Niantic, CT; grandchildren Brian and Emily Huray; siblings David Roth (Debby) of Keene, NH, Rosemary Bawn (Dennis) of Stow, MA, John Roth (Martina) of Burlington, MA, Joanne Roth of Bedford, MA, Regina Johnson of Burlington, MA, and Paul Roth (Laurie) of Woburn, MA. He is also survived by sister-in-law Gail Bolduc (Raymond) of Hinsdale, MA; brothers-in-law Paul Tesoniero (JoAnn) of Pittsfield, MA and Matthew Tesoniero (Debbe) of Pittsfield, MA and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Richard was predeceased by his mother Laura M. Shine and his sister Nancy A. Cutts.
Richard received his undergraduate degree at Boston College and went on to the University of Virginia to study political science. He worked for the Social Security Administration for nearly 20 years. He earned his Juris Doctorate at Western New England College School of Law. Following his graduation in 1993 he established his own practice in Springfield, MA specializing in social security disability law.
Richard was a sports enthusiast and a lifelong fan of the Red Sox and the Bruins. He was a dog lover and cared tremendously over the years for the family Pomeranians Foxy, Sammy and Snuggles.
Richard's family ensured his legacy will live on through the donation of his brain to Harvard Brain Tissue Resource Center. This contribution to scientific research will hopefully impact countless others with vascular dementia in the future.
The family is grateful to Jenny Sullivan, Audra Dziuba, Charity Noyes and Jackie Henderson for their compassionate care and support.
Arrangements made through Wrisley Funeral Home, 90 Sugarloaf Street, South Deerfield, MA. Calling hours are Wednesday, July 5 from 7pm-8pm, and Thursday, July 6 from 10am-11am with service to follow.

i was so sad to hear about richard's passing last year. i only know him from a baseball card forum we both belong to. he was a great trader of cards and always generous and fair. may he rest in peace.

Richard was my supervisor for a time in Holyoke. I enjoyed working with him. Coincidentally, he was instrumental for me getting my promotion to Decision Writer at the Springfield Hearing Office. I am sorry for your loss. I am sorry I could not be at the calling hours, but I was out of the country.

Kelly and family,
So sorry to hear about your dad. Death is always hard to cope with but yet it´s another chapter in our life. It is with great memories that I have about Richard and I standing while watching Kelly and Katie playing girl´s competitive hockey. As we all know, we spend so much time at hockey rinks, that we become in many ways a hockey family. I enjoyed those moments with Richard as we talked about the path for kids to reach the competitive level of college sports, as well as talking about our careers. We actually worked close to one another in Springfield for a while. I worked in state government in the disability field. Richard was a joy to be around, as compared to those hyped-up hockey moms screaming at the top of their lungs. I am sure there are so many great memories. Sorry my wife and family could not be there with you.
