1924-2017
EASTHAMPTON - Stephen S Sojkowski, 93, died Tuesday November 7, 2017 surrounded by the love of family. He was born July 18, 1924 in Northampton to the late Stefan W. and Annie (Kulas) Sojkowski.
Stephen graduated from the former Sacred Heart School and Easthampton High School. He was a WWII Veteran and served from May 4, 1943 until being honorably discharged December 9, 1945. He was a Corporal with Company "B" 101st Combat Engineers Battalion in France, Germany and Belgium. Steve was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Silver Star Medals. After being discharged he graduated from Northampton Commercial College and American International College. Steve worked for JP Stevens Corp. as cost manager for 36 years. He retired in 1987.
He was a longtime Communicant of the former Sacred Heart Church in Easthampton and is now a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Easthampton. He enjoyed playing cribbage with his many friends, family and grandchildren. Steve married his wife Dorothy April 16, 1955 at St. Stanislaus Church in South Deerfield. He enjoyed many years of Polka dancing with his beloved wife.
Steve leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Dorothy (Filipkowski) Sojkowski. His loving and devoted son Steven A. Sojkowski and his wife Susan; his cherished grandchildren, Daniel Sojkowski and his wife Lindsey, Bryan Sojkowski and his wife Shannon and Katie Sojkowski; great grandchildren, Austin, Elliott, Genevieve, Isla and Finn Sojkowski; His sister in-law Janet Ciulewicz and her husband Bill of S. Deerfield; sister in-law Sophie Filipkowski of Hatfield and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 13, 2017 with funeral procession beginning to form at 9am at the Graham Funeral Home, 18 Adams St., Easthampton. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am in Our Lady of the Valley Parish, 33 Adams St., Easthampton. Burial will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Easthampton with Military Honors. Visiting hours will be held at Graham Funeral Home Sunday, November 12 from 2-5pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of the Valley Parish, Beautification Fund, 33 Adams St., Easthampton, MA 01027 or Cooley Dickinson VNA & Hospice, 168 Industrial Dr., Northampton, MA 01060.
