Theodore Penick

Northfield, MA - Theodore Giddings Penick, 91, passed away on August 6, 2025. A beloved son and brother, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Ted was born in New York City on February 22, 1934, to Dixon and Louise Penick. He graduated from Haverford College with a BA in English in 1955 and began a long career in the insurance business. He married Lorraine Botsford on June 20, 1959, and soon became a family man, having two daughters, Allison and Katie. As their daughters grew, Ted and Lorraine wanted to settle down without the relocation demands involved in working for a large insurance company. They settled in Northfield in 1972 as Ted began working for the local Packard, Sawyer, Watters and Bell agency. "PSWB" eventually merged with Gilmore Insurance, and in 1991, Ted bought the commercial lines of Gilmore & Watters, eventually entering into a joint venture to operate part of Massamont Insurance. The Penick and Massamont businesses were sold to MassOne in 1999, and Ted retired in 2000 after a fulfilling career.

Ted also served on Pioneer's school committee and Northfield's Board of Appeals and volunteered for years with the Money Management program at Franklin County Care Corporation. He and Lorraine were very interested in their families' genealogy and were tireless volunteers for the Botsford Family Historical Association.

Ted's family was most important to him, and he and Lorraine have been loved and regular attendees at countless holiday and family gatherings through the years. Their children, grand- and great grandchildren have been "the light in their eyes".

Ted is survived by daughters, Allison Penick and Katie Fellows, son-in-law Jeff Fellows, grandson Aaron Fellows, his wife Shannon and their two young sons, grandson Matthew Fellows and his wife, Michelle, as well as Lorraine's sister-in-law Lore Botsford and Ted's brother-in-law Gerry Anderson.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday 8-13-2025 at the Kidder Funeral Home, 1 Parker Ave. Northfield, MA at 10am. Burial will be later in the day at 2pm at the Green Lawn Cemetery, Housatonic, MA.

There will be a calling hour on Wednesday the 13th at 9am until the time of the service at the funeral home.
