Bangor, ME — Valerie Malikowski passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 30, 2021, after a five and a half year battle with cancer. Val was born April 18, 1952 in Brattleboro, VT the daughter of Joseph and Louise (Looney) Mankowsky.

She grew up in Northfield, MA and attended Greenfield Community College. She married Thomas Malikowski in 1974 and they moved to Millinocket, Maine in 1978, where they raised four children. Valerie had countless friends and touched many lives supporting her children, volunteering at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, as well as the Millinocket school system, and working in home healthcare. She was truly a shining light to all who knew her. Val's favorite role in life was being Nana to her four grandchildren, Emily and Alyssa Rowe and Luke and Tyler McNally all of Bangor. She also enjoyed a special love for animals over the years.

Valerie was predeceased by her parents; sister-in-law Karen Malikowski; many other special family members.

She is survived by her husband Thomas of Bangor; mother-in-law Sophie Malikowski of Orono; sons Timothy and wife Kimberly, Peter and wife Sarah, all of Hampden, Maine; daughters Mary Rowe and fiancé John Dube of Winterport, Amy McNally and husband Garth of Bangor; brothers Joseph Mankowsky and wife Alana of Warwick, MA and Thomas Mankowsky of Rio Rancho, NM; sister Julie Mankowsky of Holden, MA; nephew Michael and wife Amanda Mankowsky.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to Cancer Care of Maine, 33 Whiting Hill Rd. #21, Brewer, ME 04412.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John's Catholic Church, 217 York St., Bangor. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. The family asks all attendees wear face coverings due to the on-going pandemic. Messages and memories may be shared with the family at

Tom and family, We were so sorry to hear of Valerie´s death. She will always be remembered for her smile and graciousness. We still laugh about dropping in on you with Joe and Alana on the way home from PEI. Keep the good memories close to your heart. David and Paula
