To the Rouch family:
Some of you may remember that I spent the winter of 1969-70 at Sequoia Crest in various "Rouch" houses, and did a little general caretaking. I have been on the east coast for the past 40 years, but have always had fond memories of my time with Sonny in the mountains. He taught me to operate a front-end loader and a chainsaw with a 6 foot chain-bar. I was on the construction crew that built the lodge, stayed there through some amazing windstorms that toppled big trees all around me. Sonny was a true renaissance man, who knew something about nearly everything. I'll never forget him in his pickup, with Rastus, the wonder dog in the back. So long, old friend. Dear Rouch Family, I'd just like to express my sorrow on hearing of your Dad's(Sonny) passing. I too have know the family since the mid 1950's, and grown up with the kids. I have a cabin at the Crest now,but I grew up in the red cabin above the Camp Nelson pool. Sonny was always kind, friendly and knew so much about the area and its people. I know you are a close family and that this loss is devastating for you all. My thoughts are with you at this time of sorrow. Sincerely, Sally Christensen Crain

Dear Theresa and Mark:
Thank you for letting us know of Sonny's passing. Also for sharing his obituary and website with us. We learned a lot more about him, but of course we always knew he was a wonderful man. We have very special memories of Sonny from the time we lived in Madera.
Having experienced it ourselves, we know that even if you are expecting it, it is difficult to say good-bye to a beloved parent. And yet, what a very sacred experience it is to be with your father (as Alan was) or with your mother (as I was) as they leave this world. We are so glad you were able to be there, Theresa, and be surrounded with family as your father slipped into eternity.
We are sending our love across the miles and wish we could be there to give you both big hugs. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and all of your extended family who will be missing Sonny in the months to come.

Dear Rouch Family, we feel a deep loss of not only a true friend but our favorite historian. We will always cherish our time together in Sonny's redwood groves. You know, if God needs a road built to heaven Sonny's on a bulldozer and half way there by now. Our thoughts and prayers are with each of you during your time of loss. Selfishly, cannot imagine the mountains without you. Nor can I imagine how tall and how splendid the redwoods are where you walk now. Thank you for being you.
