Doug Harvey Obituary

Born Harold Douglas Harvey, March 3, 1930 in Southgate, CA to Harold Woollen and Margaret Mae Harvey, passed to his heavenly Father January 13, 2018 in Visalia, CA.
Doug was raised in El Centro, CA, graduating from Central High School. He attended San Diego State College and lettered in football, basketball and baseball.
Loving sports, he became a professional basketball referee (ABA & ABL) and professional baseball umpire, ending his 35 year career in the National League as the "Dean of Umpires" in 1992.
In 2010 he was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY.
He is survived by his wife Joy, sons Scott and Todd, 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and numerous nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his son Doug, and brothers Roy, Nolan and Donald.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday January 21, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 764 W. Henderson, Porterville, CA.
Donations may be made in his name to the Cancer Foundation of Santa Barbara, CA, 601 W. Junipero, Santa Barbara, CA. 93105 or to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, 25 Main St. Cooperstown, NY 13326.

Doug was one of the nicest men I ever met, and the best umpire in the N.L. He had the perfect make up to be an umpire.

I wish to send my condolences to his family.
He will be missed by all who ever knew him.
