Richard Reed Obituary

Grant Richard Reed (Papa Dick) passed away peacefully on his 82nd birthday at his home. He was born in Wasco to Bert and Clara Reed. Dick lived in the Porterville area most of his life. He graduated from Strathmore High School in 1952 where he was active in the FFA judging team and played catcher on the baseball team.
In 1952 he met the love of his life, Marcia, at a Fourth of July dance at Camp Nelson. He loved to dance, and all the gals loved to dance with him. They married a year later and raised five great children. Dick helped with Monache Band, Choir and coaching baseball. He was always helping events his children were in and had a heart of gold.
He loved his ten grandchildren so much and was so proud of the adults they became. Dick was a self-employed Electrician for most of his life,
Dick loved to hunt and fish and loved gardening and also the family ski trips. Dick helped build the family cabin at Camp Nelson, this was his favorite place to be with family. He also played 25¢ poker once a month with a great bunch of guys, until a big stroke took his left side and he could no longer hold cards. He loved playing cribbage with the late Walt Summers, John Corzine and John Wayel who is the last man standing.
Dick is survived by his wife Marcia, and children Tina (Richard), Tim (Jean), Tammy (David), Todd (Peggy), Tom (Terri); grandchildren, Justin, Nick (Mackenzie), Matt, Kyle (Jenna), Stephanie, Jeff,Michelle,Katie, Madison (Casey), Amy; greatgrandchildren, Emersyn, Brielle, Brixton and Walter.
Per his wishes, no service will be held. Remembrances in Dick's memory may be made to the Hospice Foundation, 2439 West Whitendale Ave., #B, Visalia,CA 93277. This magnificent group of people made our last two weeks with our loved one so peacefully perfect for all of us.
