Ronald Dunning Obituary

Dunning, Ronald D.

Mar 11, 1948 - Nov 22, 2025

Ronald "Ronnie"/"Ron" David Dunning, age 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 22, 2025 in Visalia, CA. He was a lifelong resident of Porterville.

Ronnie was born in Porterville on March 11,1948 to Orville "O.H." and June Dunning. He was the baby of the family, having three older brothers and one older sister.

He attended Porterville High School and then spent one year in Vietnam where he received a purple heart. After the army he worked for Rainbow Bread where he later retired from.

After retiring he enjoyed tending to his garden where he grew vegetables and onion starters. One other hobby that Ron enjoyed was horseshoes. He and his older brother, Charlie, participated in many tournaments.... and won. He was an active member of the Porterville Eagles and participated in many Veteran's Day parades. One of his favorite things to do was hang out by the burn barrel on his property. He had weekly "regulars" who would join him to laugh, visit, and tell stories. He was a skilled joke teller and welcomed anyone who showed up.

Ron leaves behind his wife Kathy, daughter Alyssa (Jeff), son Justin (Leslie), step-children Tamara (Mark), Josh (Danielle) and Jennifer (Jeff), brother Richard (Linda), many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Charles and Jerry, and his sister Dorothy.

There will be a memorial service at the Veterans Hall on Olive on March 6, 2026 at 3:00 pm. for all who knew and loved him.

My condolences to Ronnie´s family. He was a lifelong joker - I don´t know anyone who didn´t appreciate and enjoy his company. He and I were neighbors in the Village Gardens community. I lived on Magnolia and he lived on Cedar (if my memory serves me). We both rode the bus to Rockford Elementary School. It is comforting to know he passed peacefully.
