Chris Vernon Mickey, age 75, of Washington CH, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at the Chillicothe VA Medical Center, surrounded by his beloved family.
He was born on June 16, 1949 in Chillicothe, Ohio to the late Elvin and Rosetta (Smith) Hall Mickey. He attended Chillicothe High School and from there he joined and proudly served his country in the United States Army. Chris served in Vietnam and the Persian Gulf War. He retired from the United States Army in 1997 after twenty-six years of service. Chris was a security guard at Fayette County Memorial Hospital for thirteen years and retired in 2011. He was a faithful member at the First Church of God on Harrison St. He enjoyed his meals at The Willow, metal detecting, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Chris was preceded in death by his son, Robert Elvin Mickey; grandson, Austin Mickey; and siblings, Janice Hall Scott, Tanya Cousins, Toney Hall, Perry Hall, and an infant sister.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Kathy Rene (Freeman) Mickey, whom he married on July 7, 1978; his children, Irisha (Daniel) Ryan, Kyle (Michelle) Mickey, Clifton Mickey, Nakia (Tashia) Mickey, and Chris, II (Amanda) Mickey; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Kyra (Mark) Mickey Brown, Lara Benson, and Elvin Mickey, Jr.; mother-in-law, Wanda White; and sister-in-law, Kay Richardson Hall. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Church of God, 610 Harrison St., Washington CH, OH 43160, with Rev. Patrick Gamble and Rev. Chrisopher Randolph Scott officiating with burial to follow at the Washington Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the church on Saturday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
