Jerry Lee Ely

Jerry Lee Ely, 63, of Staunton, Ohio died Sunday, February 9, 2014, at 9:36 a.m. at his residence. He had been ill ten years. Jerry was born February 3, 1951, in Greenfield, Ohio to John Howard and Elsie Lucille Meredith Ely. He was a 1970 graduate of Miami Trace High School where he played football and baseball. He lived most of his life in the Staunton community. He was a farmer for the Waddle brothers for many years and served on the Concord-Green Township Volunteer Fire Department. Jerry was a member of the Staunton United Methodist Church and had formerly played on the church softball league. He mowed and took care of the baseball fields in Staunton. He was preceded in death his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Jean Kitchen and his best friend, Eddie Ives. Jerry is survived by his wife, the former Nancy Sue Kitchen whom he married March 7, 1970; a son and daughter-in-law, J.T. and Jessica Ely and a daughter and son-in-law, Dee and Jeremy Coats, all of Staunton; five grandchildren, Zoe, Lexis and Sebastian Ely and Corey and Clayton Coates; a brother, John Ely of Samantha; five sisters, Viv Losey and her husband, Terry, of California, Joanna Fisher and her husband, Bob, of New Vienna, Hazel Downing of Sardinia, Mary Ellen Jugert of Colorado and Sue Mick of South Salem, his Kitchen and Gentry in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews. The family extends its special thanks to Jim Garland, Nancy Ivers, Kirk Stuckey, Dick Coates and members of the Concord-Green Township Volunteer Fire Department and the Staunton United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be Thursday, February 13, 2014, at 6:30 p.m. at the Staunton United Methodist Church with Matt Anders officiating. A time of food and fellow will immediately follow in the fellowship hall of the church.
