Ann Carol Strecker
Dec. 9, 1949 - Dec. 18, 2009
Ann Carol Strecker passed away December 18, 2009 at Stanford University Hospital with her family by her side. Ann was born in Oakland, CA on December 9, 1949 to Dick and Ida Rieder. As a child she grew up in the San Lorenzo Bay Area and after graduating high school attended Chico State University majoring in English and Early Childhood Education.
In August of 1968 she met the love of her life, Arnold Strecker, a young sailor from Roberts Island. Ann and Arnold were married May 9, 1970. Ann adjusted immediately to being a "country mouse" and quickly became involved with many local organizations. Ann was a leader for the Roberts Union 4-H Club from 1980-1993. California Women for Agriculture had been an organization close to her heart since 1977 serving as the San Joaquin Chapter Treasurer for 27 years. Ann's love for reading and the education of children started as a preschool teacher and director in Stockton and led her to Tracy Unified School District where she was a Librarian for 20 years. Her love of books and the children she touched will be her legacy.
She is survived by her mother Ida Rieder, husband of 39 years Arnold Strecker, brother Robert Rieder, daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth and Jim Claussen, grandchildren Marion and William Claussen and son David Strecker. She was preceded in death by her father Dick Rieder.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the coming months to honor Ann. Donations can be made to Library & Literacy Foundation for San Joaquin County and The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Dearest Arnold, Elizabeth, David and extended family ...
My thoughts and prayers are with you during this most difficult time. My mom (Erica Levin) called to share the news of Ann's death and I was deeply saddened to hear of her passing. I have fond memories of our families sharing special times together at First Congregational Church and of the family dinner we all shared a few years ago at your home. May the beautiful memories of your time with her give you comfort now and in the days ahead.
With sympathy and love,
Melanie (Hart) Robb and family

Arnold...I am so sorry for your loss. Ann was a good friend and co-worker to me and a wonderful friend and librarian to my son Matthew (5th grader at Bohn school). We will both miss her terribly. My thoughts and prayers are with you, your children, and grandchildren.

We can't tell enough how deeply saddened we are for all of you. Our dear neighbor, Ann, will be missed by all of us. Our family will cherish so many memories of our two families working, playing and celebrating together. From Delta Island's School library, County Fair, the 4th of July parties, 4-H Camp, New Year's Days and everything in between.
You are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time and always.

Dear Arnold,
We are so sorry to hear this sad news about Ann. Though we've been out of touch with your family, we have known that CWA was in good hands with Ann at the financial helm! What a shock to hear that she had been so ill...please know that you are in our prayers.
