David L. Yeakel, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2007. He was 90 years old. David was born August 19, 1916 in Hazleton, PA and was a resident of Manteca for 45 years. David finished high school in Pennsylvania in 1934. He attended Penn State College and worked for the government until instructed to enter into the Army, Air force in 1942. David went on to work for the Pacific Gas and Electric Company for over 32 years retiring as a District Representative. He was a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church in Manteca. He was a past president for both St. Paul's and Clay Street Methodist. He was past vice-president for the Manteca St. Paul's Men's Club; served on the administrative board of St. Paul's and served on the official board of St. Paul's Stockton. His interest in youth organizations was shown in his life by participating in youth summer camps with the church; and scouting. He was a member of the veteran Scouter Assoc. receiving an Eagle Scout award in Hazleton PA ; he was also the holder of the Scouter's Key. David was involved in Lions Club of Manteca and was on the board of directors and past president of their organization. The outdoors was David's passion; he enjoyed hiking, camping, fishing, and motor trips with his family. He was a member of the N.R.A. and outdoor photography. He was also very active in P.S.E.A. activities including education chairman, membership chairmen, assistant treasurer and past president through the Stockton section. Amongst all of David's involvements with the community and the church; family was most important to him; he was always full of surprises with his great sense of humor. He was a wonderful outgoing father and grandfather, and a loyal honest husband. He will be deeply missed. David is survived by his wife of 63 years, Clare Yeakel; children, John and Valerie Yeakel of Oakland, Timothy and Darcy Yeakel of Geyserville and daughter-in-law, Berniece Yeakel of Capistrano Beach; grandchildren, Nathan Yeakel of Sunnyvale, Matthew Yeakel of Capistrano Beach, Corey McGoldrick of Santa Rosa, Amanda McGoldrick of Huntington Beach. David was preceded in death by his son, David Yeakel; siblings, John Yeakel, James Yeakel and Ethel Mae Watson.
Graveside Services will be held at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi on Friday, July 6, 2007 at 11:30 a.m. Memorial Services will be held on Friday after the Graveside Service at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Methodist Church, 910 E. North St., Manteca. P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home, Manteca in care of arrangements.
