Joseph Avansino Obituary









July 15, 1961 - Feb. 4, 2017

Joseph (Joe AG) Alton Avansino of Linden, CA died suddenly in Stockton, February 4, 2017. Born in Stockton, CA July 15, 1961 to Patricia and James Avansino, Sr. Grandson of the late Ethel and John Avansino, and Ann and Merle Mayberry. Preceded in death by his father James Avansino, Sr. Joe attended Linden schools, was active in 4-H and FFA. After school he went to work on the family farm with his dad and uncle. He also served as a field man for Morada Produce and you could always find him in the cherries come April and May. For twenty five years Joe volunteered with the Linden Peters Fire Department. His love of life and passion led him to be an avid outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman. He was also a devoted bocci player, "he beat all you guys!" Being a dedicated father and community member, Joe was often found behind an apron cooking for youth sports programs and local events. Joe was an active member of numerous clubs and organizations including the Linden Athletic Boosters, Waterloo Athletic Club (past president), Italian Gardeners Society and the Waterloo Gun and Bocci. Survived by his wife Leslie Avansino, his sons Andrew and Paul Avansino, mother and stepfather Patricia and Fred Podesta, brothers James (Ann) Avansino, Jr., Fredrick (Beth) Podesta, Victor (Monica) Podesta, sister Tara (Scott) Bryant, uncle Raymond (Marilyn) Avansino, Sr., mother and father-in-law Diane and Don Driever, brother-in-law Eric (Paula) Driever and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be Visitation at Casa Bonita Funeral Home, 2500 Cemetery Lane, Stockton, CA on Thursday, February 9th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 18633 E. Front St., Linden, CA on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Committal will be private at San Joaquin Catholic Mausoleum. In Lieu of Flowers, contributions may be made to the "Avansino Children Education Fund" at any Farmers & Merchants bank or the charity of your choice.
