Lisa Vrooman Obituary

Dec. 28, 1960 - Mar. 10, 2017
Lisa Lynnette Vrooman of Lodi, CA, passed away from cancer at her home on Friday, March 10, 2017 at the age of 56. She was born in San Gabriel, CA on December 28, 1960 and placed into the loving arms of her adoptive parents Ray and Arlene (Clewett) Vrooman at age four days. She lived and was schooled in Fullerton, CA until December, 1973 when the family moved to the newly purchased Walnut Grove Marina in Walnut Grove, CA, where she worked side by side with her father until his death in 2008 and the marina was sold. My amazing daughter went to be with God and her loved ones as she truly believed she would. She left a trail of broken hearts behind. Lisa loved people, all people. She knew everyone by first name at the places she frequented; markets, restaurants and the bank. When she asked "How is your day going?" she really wanted to know. She was kind, loving and most of all, compassionate. She was everyone's caregiver. She always paid it forward. She fiercely loved her family, friends and animals. Lisa loved holidays and parties, especially if they were with little kids. She loved to cook and with that skill she turned a new neighborhood into a family with once a week pot-lucks. At Christmas time her specialty was biscuits and gravy distributed to all her friends. Once while buying the groceries at Raley's, she was talking to the checker and the lady behind her commented that she "loved biscuits and gravy." Lisa's reply was a quick "give me your address and I will bring you some", and she did. She was my daughter who grew to be my friend, my shopping buddy, my everything. She is survived by her daughter Heather Pratt Vuica (Joseph) of Surprise, AZ; her mother, Arlene Vrooman of Woodbridge, CA; Brothers Gary Vrooman (Kay) of Sacramento, CA and Steve Vrooman (Norma) of Moreno Valley, CA; and biological sister Terri Bellin Mutch (Thomas) of Schertz, TX. She was preceded in death by her father, Ray Vrooman and first husband and friend forever, Stuart Pratt, and two biological brothers, Richard and Marty Bellin, and far too many close friends and family. At her request, there will be no services. Her desire was to be cremated and swim with the dolphins.

This dear 3rd cousin and her dear mom took it upon fhemselves to research and compile an incredible family history of at least the Clewett side of their ancestry, then unilaterally they produced relevant copies for each living descendent, including yours truly, tracked us down, then they sent those relevant copies for each of us to each of us!

How incredible is that!

So, dear cousins Lisa and Mom, Arlene, and by family extension, Ray Vrooman, thank you from all of me, and I'm certain, every one of us whom you blessed.

We appreciate you more than you may ever know.

My favorite (and one-and-only as she would often remind me with a chuckle) niece, Lisa, exemplified the word, kindness. It would often be laced with a matter-of-fact demeanor, or even a tongue-in-cheek sarcasm, that could have been misinterpreted if one listened without watching. She exuded love for others: friends, family, strangers, even her brothers, but especially her mom.
I remember, after a rare family reunion, she and her friend, Rodney, made a huge out-of-the-way trip to extend their visit with me on their way home. Rodney wasn't sure why he wasn't feeling well, but turned out to be brain cancer and his last "vacation." They were just friends, but she cared for him like he was the most important person on earth until he died. Lisa loved deeply, doing the same for her 90+ year old neighbor and many others in her brief life, including her dad. She expressed that she felt she was born for this!
But her greatest dedication was to her mom. When Lisa became sick, she cried on the phone with me, knowing she would not be able to continue driving to her mom's every morning. She had a routine! Before 7am she was there, making coffee, breakfast, taking care of her mom's furry family, sweeping the porch and talking about the day's news. This upset her more than the cancer that eventually took her!
I love Lisa and will always treasure her for this quality.
I also remember her for her generosity and humor. She picked up on the little things people would say. I once saw a cute video of a little piglet following her human family around, even into the ocean at the beach. It was so cute, I inadvertently said, I want a pig! The next thing I knew, I was receiving a ceramic or stuffed pig every year, and I had to BEG her to STOP! We laughed so hard! But, mind you, these were nice quality pieces, so the "family" of three sits proudly under our baby grand in the living room!
Thank you, Lisa, for the laughter, the fun, the generosity, and your love! Your laughter and loving spirit touched me, and will remain in my heart and memory until I see you again.
