Maria "Tess" Theresa Winters
Maria "Tess" Theresa Winters passed away peacefully at home at age 81 on May 25th, 2021. Tess was born on October 15, 1939 in Santa Barbara, California. She was raised in Hayward, California and later moved to the Stockton-Lodi area where she lived the remainder of her life.
Tess is survived by her son, Donnie Soares, sister Delores Horvath and son-in-law Jack Horvath; Don Soares, and three granddaughters Amber Soares, Brandie Levine and Chantel Soares. She had three great grandchildren Ava Levine, Gavin Levine and Ivy Soares. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Elvira Rubio, her brother Alex Rubio, her oldest son Wesley Soares and her husband John Winters.
Her professional life began in the health care insurance field at John Slaughter Insurance Company in San Francisco, California. This environment provided Tess with a perfect backdrop for "dressing to the nines" for work which she always loved to do and always did with STYLE. Later Tess and her family moved to Lodi, California where she worked at Lodi Memorial Hospital as an insurance claims specialist. Tess later worked as health care claims professional for the The Foundation for Medicare, and Interplan Inc. in Stockton. Tess's warm personality, her exceptional "wit" and ability to problem solve difficult work situations were among her finest professional accomplishments.
Tess enjoyed socializing with family by attending the Oakland Athletics baseball games with her son Donnie, or watching NASCAR races and tennis matches. She loved puzzles, and always had one going at home. Tess had a large group of friends and together they enjoyed trips to local casinos to try one more time to "win the big one". She enjoyed trips to Spain with her sister Delores and cruising to the Mediterranean with her husband John. The simplest pleasures in life brought joy to Tess. She loved quiet evenings with friends and a glass or two of wine or another favorite toddy drink.
Her presence will be greatly missed by all that knew her. She was one classy lady.

My Tess-- I miss you to the moon and back!! I am so glad we met and got to spend so many happy times together. I will still go to the casino on Cherokee for lunch when I am in Lodi for our fish/chips and a glass of wine --oh the conversations we had!!! You were the most kind and giving lady in the world. Your little smirk was always on your face even on the last day you were with us. Always in my heart. Lv ya

Tess, I am so glad we got to meet each other and be part of each other's life. You are a beautiful and special person to me and I miss you very much. I know you are looking down on me and Donnie and probably even having dinner with us. We miss spending time together with you. Keep being sassy Mama, and should you see Ron and Max give them lots of hugs and kisses for me. Love you, Renee

Tess is one of the most kind, compassionate, absolutely hilarious women that I know. I could talk to her about absolutely anything and I knew we were going to have some good laughs. My mother and Tess, along with Donnie were friends who treated each other like family. I became close with Tess and Donnie as well. I have so much respect for them and can't thank them enough for the friendship that we've built. The world lost a great woman but I'm chuckling thinking of my mom and Tess in heaven having a laugh, doing a puzzle, watching a tennis match, and watching over us. I will definitely miss her sense of humor the most. Donnie, I'm so sorry for all of our loss, you're mother absolutely adored you, and is so proud of you.

I met Tess thru her son Donnie and we hit it off as Friends right away. I got to where I called her Mom when I would see her. She always had a big Smile and a Hug for me. She will be deeply missed. Prayers to the Family.
