Ruby entered into the presence of the Lord, Tuesday, May 8, 2007. She was born January 26, 1932 on Wheeler Hill in Columbia South Carolina, to the late Edward and Nancy Perry. She was the wife of the late Rev. Edward William Alston, former pastor of the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church and the New Spirit Missionary Baptist Church in Stockton, California. Ruby was a homemaker, second parenting some of her grandchildren. She was a member of Progressive Missionary Baptist Church of Stockton. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War and the Eastern Stars. Preceding her in death were her sons, Edward Alston, Jr., Otis Alston and one adopted son, James Merolla. She leaves to cherish her memories and mourn her passing, one daughter, Kimberly Alston and one son, Juel Alston, both of Stockton, California. Four children that she raised as her own; nephew, Wayne Perry of Del Rio, Texas; 3 great-grandchildren, Virginia Smith, Anthony and Antinisha Johnson of Stockton, California. She also leaves 2 daughters-in-law, Peggy and Sheila Alston of Stockton; 29 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; 4 God children; 4 sisters, Ludella Williams of Hartford, CT, Rosenna Murray of Stockton, Mary P. Isaac and Clara Lee Curry of Columbia, SC. One aunt, Rebecca Perry of Hopkins, SC; one uncle, Paul Perry of Philadelphia, PA and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation took place on Monday, May 14, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Jesse E. Cooley, Jr. Mortuary, 640 N. California St., Stockton. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 15 at 11:00 a.m. at Restoration For Life Ministries, 610 N. Hunter Street, Stockton. Committal at Cherokee Memorial Park, Lodi, CA.
