Ruby LaFon Trautz, age 81 years of Omaha, Nebraska, was born February 2, 1925 in Manzanor, CA. She passed away Thursday, August 31, 2006 in Omaha, NE.
At the age of 17, she worked as a human calculator for Ames Aeronautical Laboratory. She began nursing training in 1943 at Santa Clara County Hospital and San Jose State University. After being employed at Los Angeles Queen of Angels Hospital, she later worked at Woodlands and Santa Clara Hospitals. In 1950 she was commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Air Force as a flight nurse. Later she worked in several director of nursing positions and finally as a nursing quality control inspector. In 2005 she moved to Wyoming and Nebraska, remaining active and enjoying traveling, gardening, card playing and friends and family. Ruby always wanted to be the first senior citizen on a space flight.
She was preceded in death by parents, Paul and Maude Lafon; sisters, Laura Mae Cates, Patty Langelius, Pauline Orlando. She is survived by loving daughters and sons-in-law, Polly and Ken Costello and Traci and Ronnie Priddy. Loving grandchildren, J.K., Johnnie, Christy, Keith and Paige. Nieces and nephews, Richard, Sandy, Judi, Butch, Stephen and Patty, and many other family members and friends.
There will be a reception for family and friends at the home of Polly and Ken Costello. Arrangements by Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home, 5701 Center S., Omaha, NE 68108, 402-556-2500.
