Warren L. Mecum
March 2, 1917 - March 8, 2010
Warren Lassen Mecum, 93, of Stockton passed away on Monday March 8th at St. Joseph's Hospital.
He was born on March 2, 1917 in Oakland, CA and had lived in Stockton for the last 57 years. He enjoyed life outdoors and was an avid Hunter, Fisherman and Gardener. He also enjoyed Square Dancing and cooking pies, cakes and cookies for his numerous clubs. Extremely active and always on the move is a great description of how he led his life. Climbing ladders and pruning trees and cutting wood with the chain saw while in his 90's.
His favorite place was his cabin in Cohasset, CA on a cliff overlooking Chico in the distance. His dad Phil had a lumber mill in Cohasset that started during the Gold Rush. Fishing on Deer Creek near the cabin was another favorite place.
He proudly served as an infantryman during WWII fighting his way across North Africa, Sicily, Italy and France. He had fond memories of people in England, Italy and France who he met during the war.
After the war Warren moved to Stockton and became a sheet metal worker building large switchboards for a Stockton company Delta Switchboard. The work gave him "hands of stone" and he would love to finger wrestle buffed-out guys and make them cry "uncle". What a grip!
Warren is survived by his daughter, Pamela S. Davenport, son Ted W. Mecum, companion Eleanor Murth and 4 grandchildren, Greg Mecum, Eric Mecum, Andy Mecum and Rebecca Rapier (Mecum). He will be remembered as a very kind person always "giving" to others. Oh yes, and for those pies of his....yummie!
Services will be held on Monday, March 15th at 1:00 p.m. located at Frisbie-Warren & Carroll Mortuary 809 N. California St Stockton, CA. Visitation is from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Committal is private. Frisbie-warren & Carroll entrusted with the arrangements.
