David Martin Rohr

David Rohr Obituary

David Martin Rohr of Middletown, died Monday, September 4 at home. He was 85.

The son of the late Jacob S. and Eva Steuer Rohr, he was born July 9, 1921 in New York City, N.Y.

He served his country in the U.S. Air Force. David received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He was a member of the Middletown Elks Club and an honorary member of O.C. Golf Club.

David married Frances Adams in Cheyenne, Wyo. in 1946. They shared nearly 50 years of marriage together before Frances' death in 1996.

David was the owner and operator of International Diesel Electric Co., Inc. He founded his business in Sloatsburg, N.Y. in the 1960's, and soon moved his business to Middletown. Later, in the 1970's he moved his family to Middletown. David designed, built and sold generators for large companies and small countries. During his career, he sold all over the world. He retired in the late 1990's.

A family statement reads: " He loved music especially show tunes and classical. He enjoyed playing piano for himself and others. He was a great poker player and discovered and enjoyed golf late in life."

He is survived by his two loving daughters, Deborah Adams Rohr of Saratoga Springs, and Rebecca Ruth Rohr of Cambridge, Mass.; one grandchild, Patty Rohr of Saratoga Springs; sister, Judith Abrams of Delray Beach, Fla.; nieces, Terry and Sherry; nephews: Jake, Matthew, David and especially Mark and Jody, who were so helpful to him. David is also survived by his close friend, Tina.

Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope. A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 8, 2006 at 1 p.m. in Wallkill Cemetery, Middletown.

Memorial contributions in David's name may be made to either Faith Reformed Church, Route 6 and S. Centerville Rd., Slate Hill, NY 10973 or YMCA, Highland Ave., Middletown, NY 10940.
