Dolores VanRegenmortel Obituary
Dolores Van Regenmortel
December 16, 1941 - April 8, 2021
Apollo Beach, Florida
We would like to notify our family and friends of the passing on April 8th, 2021 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, FL of Dolores Van Regenmortel. Outgoing and full-of-life, she was a devoted wife, caring mother, spoiling Nana, and consummate lover of dogs.
Dolores was 79 years young at the time of her passing.
Whether you knew her as Dolores, Mother, Mom, Mombo, Grandma, or Nana, one thing was certain, you never went away hungry…and you always left with a "doggie bag." She loved to cook and entertain family and friends.
Dolores was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Italian immigrants. She was educated in the New York Public School system and graduated from Wingate High School.
She is the beloved wife of John Van Regenmortel, and the loving mother of Joseph Savino, Vincent Savino, and Chris Savino. Along with her husband and three sons she leaves behind three daughters-in-law: Kristen, Maria, and Liz; six grandchildren: Sammy, Luca, Gianna, Marco, Luca, and Zack; five great-grandsons; and two nieces, Patrice Lorefice, and Sandina Popper.
Dolores worked various jobs throughout her young life but elected to stay home and raise her three sons. She was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured time with her boys and was not afraid to show them "tough-love" by routinely breaking wooden spoons on their backsides.
She was the consummate "soccer mom" before the term existed and the loudest fan. Throughout her life, she was always there when her family needed her.
In the mid-70s she went back to work, first, as a secretary for Flynn's Real Estate in Washingtonville, NY, then as co-owner of Johnny's Service Center. Everyone in the Washingtonville area has fond memories of Dolores and her boxer, Mugs, at work or strolling the streets.
Dolores ended her working career as a receptionist for Orange County Community College, Newburgh, NY, retiring in 2012.
Upon retirement Dolores and Johnny relocated to Apollo Beach, Florida, where she continued to make friends, cook, and entertain. Everyone at Southshore Falls knew Dolores. She especially enjoyed game nights, playing cards, and group dinners with friends.
Dolores had a strong, vivacious personality, and always made people feel welcome in her home. As Johnny says, "She Never Met A Stranger."
Due to COVID restrictions and her personal wishes, a funeral service will not be conducted. She will be cremated and eventually laid to rest with her husband of 41 years, Johnny.
Please give generously in her memory to C.A.R.E. Critter Adoption & Rescue Effort, Inc., of Ruskin.
A "Celebration of Life" will be held at a later date.
