DORIS VANDUNK Obituary



Middletown, NY

Doris N. VanDunk, of Middletown, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2010 at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence, Newburgh. She was 89.

Daughter of the late James P. and Anna Morgan DeFreese, she was born on June 3, 1920 in Ringwood, NJ. She was the wife of the late Raymond M. VanDunk, whom she married on August 15, 1936. Raymond predeceased Doris on September 15, 1972.

"Doris was the center of her family. She was the most wonderful mother and grandmother that any family could ask for. She loved all of us dearly and we loved her more than anything in the world."

She is survived by her loving children, Judith Bullock of Middletown and Lawrence P. VanDunk of New Windsor; grandchildren: Doris M., William G. and Lawrence M. Bullock and Aaron, Andrea and Rachel VanDunk; 13 great-grandchildren; nieces, Shirley VanDunk and Adeline DeGroat; and many other nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sons, Richard B. VanDunk and Raymond VanDunk, Jr. and daughter, Diana Joyce VanDunk.

Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory, Newburgh. A graveside service and burial of ashes will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 21, in Airmont Lutheran Cemetery, Suffern, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence, 1 Sunrise Lane, Newburgh, NY 12550.
