Emily Petranek Obituary
Emily Petranek of Montgomery, NY, a retired Assistant Controller for the Newspaper Advertising Bureau, NYC and a resident of the area, died November 15 2008, in Middletown. She was 87.
The daughter of the late Louis and Anna Rosik Petranek, she was born April 18, 1921 in New York City.
Survivors include her cousin, Jean Poggoli of Rockford, IL; cousin, Agnes Root of Norfolk, NE; god-daughter, Barbara Warrington and her husband, Dwight of Delmar, NY and her brother, William Arm Jr. and his wife, Linda of Lake Carmel, NY.
Lovingly known as "Aunt Emily"; cherished as a mother and grandmother to Christine and Gary and their daughters Angela, Samantha and Joanna Fredell of Walden, NY. Also loved and known as "aunt" by other family members: Denise, Dan, Joshua, Daniel and Chrissy Denman, and Michael Wilson of Montgomery, NY; Bob and Missy Denman of Montaque, NJ, Dwight Jr, Terri and Nicole Warrington of Walden, NY, Melissa, Eric and Andrew Zweig of Bethel, CT; Christopher and Lisa Arm of Thomaston, CT. Emily was also survived by two very dear and longtime friends, William Arm, Sr. of Goshen, NY and Mary Kidd of Jaffrey Center, NH.
Emily was active and lived life fully. She was very adventurous and unafraid to try anything new. She considered herself to be a free thinker and was very proud of her Czech heritage. Emily liked to travel and especially enjoyed the seashore. She enjoyed tending to her plants indoors and out, loved all kinds of music, dancing, Broadway shows, playing cards and games and eating out with family or friends whenever she could. Shopping was her favorite "sport" and she especially liked to spend time with fellow seniors at Silver Sneakers. Emily loved to tell stories of "the old days". Children always put a smile on her face. As the family grew, so did her love and generosity for each, and she will be greatly missed by all. She was predeceased by her brother Jerry Petranek.
A Memorial Service will take place on Friday, November 21, at 7 p.m. at Goodwill Presbyterian Church, Rt 208, Montgomery, NY. Joshua Stewart will officiate.
