Emma Furman Obituary
Emma Furman, of Grahamsville, a homemaker and a lifelong area resident, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home in Roscoe. She was 98.
The daughter of the late Harvey and Ethalinda Mandeville Van Wagner, she was born March 6, 1907 in Port Jervis.
Emma graduated from Port Jervis High School and Pratt Institute of Dress Design. Before marriage to her husband Vans, she worked in the Port Jervis Silk Mill. After marriage she was a hard working farm wife and she drove a school bus for a number of years. She was a 76-year member of the Order of Eastern Star River Valley Chapter #33 of Port Jervis, N.Y. and an adopted member of Revonah-Lincoln-Kiamesha Chapter #443 of Liberty, N.Y.; a member of the Sullivan County Historical Society, the Tri-Valley FFA Alumni Association and the Claryville Reformed Church. She was one special lady to many people, family and friends and will be missed very much.
Survivors include one son, Harvey "Pete" Furman and his wife Carol of Grahamsville, N.Y.; one daughter, Frances Fuller and her husband Eugene, with whom she made her home in recent years, of Grahamsville; grandchildren, Amy Melican and her husband John of NYC, N.Y., Karen Fingar and her husband Gregory of Penn Yan, N.Y., Van "Chip" Furman and his wife Julie of Grahamsville; step-grandchildren, Kathleen Donelli and her husband John of Plattsburgh, Stephen Fuller and his wife Cindy of Morrisonville, Eileen Costa and her husband John of Woodbourne, Glenn Fuller and his wife Wendy of Cary, N.C.; her great-grandchildren, Abigail Melican, Scott, Emily, and Eric Fingar, Adam Furman, step-great-grandchildren, Kathryn, and Meagan Donelli, Stephanie and Allison Costa, Bruce and Jake Fuller, Amanda and Stephen Jr. Fuller; and a niece, Alberta Green of St. David, Ariz.
She was predeceased by her husband, Van in 1996; a sister, Alberta Tyler and a great-grandson, Jack Melican; and a niece Ethalinda Coleman.
Visitation will be held Friday (today) March 18 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Harris Funeral Home, West Street at Buckely, Liberty.
The Order of the Eastern Star will conduct services Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
Funeral services will be Saturday March 19 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. Paul Z. Ruter will officiate.
Burial will be in the Grahamsville Rural Cemetery in Grahamsville.
