George Ajjan Obituary

Formerly of Monroe, N.Y.

George Francis Ajjan, age 84, of Lavallette, N.J., died Saturday May 28, 2005 at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Aleppo, Syria and came to this country in 1921, settling in Paterson, N.J., having lived in North Haledon, N.J. and Monroe before moving to Lavallette, N.J. three years ago.

Mr. Ajjan was the owner of Mill Pond Dry Cleaners in Monroe for sixty years having retired in 1979. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in Europe.

"Dad's laugh was hearty. He was a perfectionist and had an overwhelming pride in his family."

Mr. Ajjan enjoyed reading, gardening, tropical fish, and tinkering in his workroom.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Gertrude (nee Fattell) Ajjan; one daughter, Karen Stein and her husband, Hilton, of Lavallette, N.J.; two sons, Dr. George M. Ajjan and his wife, Mary Joan, of Franklin Lakes, N.J., and John B. Ajjan and his wife, Fran, of Monroe; two sisters, Rose Law of Hawthorne, N.J., and Margaret DeMott of Southern, N.J.; two brothers, John Adjan of Pompton Lakes, N.J., and Charles Ajjan of Lakewood, N.J.; and eight grandchildren: George Charles, Brian, Kevin, Vanessa, Valerie, Marc, Jenny, and Lauren. He was predeceased by one sister, Antoinette DeBonis, and one brother, Louis Ajjan.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9:00 AM from the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home, 567 Ratzer Road, Wayne, N.J., then to St. Ann's Melkite Catholic Church, 802 Rifle Camp Rd., W. Paterson, N.J., where a 10:00 AM funeral service will be held.

Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, June 1, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Totowa, N.J.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Vitas Hospice, One Meridian Rd., Eatontown, NJ 07724 or Holy Name Hospital, 718 Teaneck Rd, Teaneck, NJ 07666 would be appreciated.
