George Alfano Obituary

Newburgh, NY

George "Wit" Alfano of Newburgh, NY, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2008, at Westchester Medical Center with his family by his side.

Wit was born July 17, 1949 in Newburgh, NY, the son of the late Anthony and Betty Alfano. He was married to Kathy (Crisci) Alfano for 40 years.

He was the devoted father of Michele Alfano Kirk and Christopher Alfano, and the dotting grandfather of Courtney and Brittany Kirk.

Surviving are his loving wife, Kathy, at home; his daughter, Michele Alfano Kirk and her companion, Edward Dempsey of Pine Bush, NY; his son, Christopher Alfano and his fiancée, Kristy MacClements of Newburgh, NY; his granddaughters, Courtney and Brittany Kirk, who were the "loves of his life." Also surviving are his sister, Darlene Kaplan and her husband, Jeff of Tamarac, FL; his brother, Carl and his wife, Marsha of Venice, FL; his mother-in-law, Mildred Crisci; brothers-in-law, Jeff and Cheryl Crisci, and Tony and Linda Crisci; several nieces and nephews, and several very dear and close friends.

A family statement reads "The Yankees' number one fan has now joined the other Yankee greats to cheer for his team. Wit was an avid poker player and is probably ranked as one of the best!! Wit should always be remembered by his generous heart and his compassion for everyone; always there when help was needed. We will always love you and already miss you terribly!"

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. on Monday, September 29, at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 30, at St. Mary's Church, Marlboro. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the "Leukemia & Lymphoma Society" at www.leukemia.org or "MyVisionFoundation.homestead.com." The family wishes to urge all those that are able to consider giving the gift of blood which is urgently needed.

im a good friend off wits i met him at foxwoods in 1999 he was like a mentor to me he helped me with poker and gave me words of wisdom ill never forget i have ben in vietnam for 10 months and missed him. then i heard this my prayes are with the family hope you get through this as best you can.
