George Kelsey Obituary
Hasbrouck Heights, NJOn November 7, 2008 at 4:30 in the afternoon, George Kelsey passed away peacefully in his sleep. He had just celebrated his 90th birthday on November 1st with his wife, children and grandchildren. George spent the majority of his life with his beloved wife, Dorothy. The couple were married for 62 years and had three children together - Alan, Cynthia and Carolyn. George was a devoted husband and father. He was thrilled to become a grandfather to Melissa and Matthew Kelsey and Caitlin and Lindsay Kraft. George was a veteran of World War II, in which he proudly served his country overseas for three years with the Army Engineer Corps. Upon his return from the war, George completed his studies at the New Jersey Institute of Technology and Stevens Institute and worked for Western Electric as a lead electrical engineer until he retired in 1984. In 1946, George and Dorothy were married in Wood-Ridge, NJ. They bought their family home in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, where they have lived for more than 50 years. George served his community as an usher at St. Paul and Resurrection Episcopal Church for all of his married life until age 89. He served as an assistant Boy Scout leader from the time his son, Alan, was a Cub Scout until Alan attained the rank of Eagle Scout. George also served as assistant baseball coach for Alan's Little League teams and had been a longtime member of the VFW Post 4591 in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ. He was a Life Member of the Newark Community Pioneers chapter 132. George Kelsey leaves behind his beloved wife, Dorothy, nee Bockman; his son and daughter-in-law, Drs. Alan and Pauline Kelsey and their two children, Melissa and Matthew; his daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Lawrence Kraft and their two children, Caitlin and Lindsay and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral service will be held Saturday, November 15, at 12:30 p.m. at Kohler Funeral Home, 280 Hackensack St., Wood-Ridge. Interment will be in George Wasington Memorial Pk., Paramus, NJ. Visitation will be Friday, November 14, from 7-9 p.m. and Saturday, November 15, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 116 S.
