Ho Nam Obituary

Town of Newburgh, NY

Ho Y. Nam of the Town of Newburgh and West Orange, NJ, the owner of Ekko Restaurant, entered into rest on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 in West Orange, NJ. He was 56.

The son of Duck Hee and Yung Ha Nam, he was born November 6, 1952 in Korea.

Emigrating to this country in 1975, Ho was an Asian Food Innovator and created three restaurants to bring his unique brand of Korean/Japanese fusion to the American market. Originally educated in Agricultural Science, Ho raised roses to finance his first restaurant, Osho in Poughkeepsie. He then went on to create the Matsuya Japanese Steakhouse, then the Ekko in West Orange, NJ.

He is survived by his parents, Duck Hee and Yung Ha of Newburgh; sisters: Sang Mi Nam, Ki Yeon Nam and Sang Hee Sayed; brothers: Sang Yeol Nam, Sang Jin Nam, and Sang Eum Nam.

The family will receive friends Sunday, April 19, from 2 to 6 p.m. at White & Venuto Funeral Home, 188 N. Plank Rd., Rte. 32, Town of Newburgh, NY. Entombment will take place at a time convenient to the family.

I'm deeply saddened regarding the loss of Ho - an extremely honorable human being. He will remain 'unforgettable' to everyone that has ever known him for his kindness and friendship. My deepest condolensces and regrets to his entire family.
