James Ebner Obituary

Monroe, NY

James F. Ebner Sr., a 63-year area resident, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2008 at Orange Regional Medical Center in Goshen. He was 89.

The son of the late Woodward Ebner and Veronica Reap Ebner, he was born on October 16, 1918 in the Bronx. He was the widower of Mary Lance Ebner, who predeceased him in 1969, and later married Margaret Browne Ebner.

He was a retired plumber and owner of W&J Ebner, Inc. in Monroe, which was started by his father, Woodward. Jim worked alongside his dad until his dad's death in 1947. He then assumed ownership of the business and ran it with his son, Jim, Jr. until his retirement in 1990. The business is now owned and operated by his son, Jim, Jr. and continues to serve the community, as his grandfather and father did.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Monroe; a former member of Knights of Columbus Council #2079 in Monroe; and a former member of Lakeside Fire Company in Monroe.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Browne Ebner at home; sons, James F. Ebner Jr. and his wife Donna of Monroe and John P. Ebner and his wife Karen of Perry Hall, Maryland; daughter, Jean M. Griffin and her husband Kenneth of Maybrook; six grandchildren, Amanda, Nicole, Jessica, Jamilyn, Christopher and Alyssa; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Veronica Kelly.

Visitation will be on Monday, March 10 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Avenue, Monroe. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 11 at 10 a.m. at Chapel of the Sacred Heart, Stage Road, Monroe. Interment will follow in St. Anastasia Cemetery in Harriman.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Church, 26 Still Road, Monroe, NY 10950 or Monroe-Lakeside Fire Rescue Company, P.O. Box 779, Monroe, NY 10949.
