Jane Mastin Obituary

Formerly of West Point, NY

Memorial services and interment in the Columbarium will be held at 1:30 p.m. October 17, at the Old Cadet Chapel at West Point, NY, for Jane Louise Mastin, 82, former longtime West Point resident and wife of retired Col. John W. Mastin, former Associate Dean at West Point, who passed away in Roswell, NM on August 14, 2008. at her home.

Jane was born April 15, 1926, to Harold Henry Hahn and Lou Flora Crandall in Teaneck, NJ. Her parents preceded her in death as well as one sister, Nina Valentine.

She married 2nd Lt. John W. Mastin, June 4, 1947, in Bogota, NJ. They moved from West Point to Roswell, NM after John's retirement in 1974. John also preceded her in death in 2001.

Jane was a member of the Chaparral Rock Hounds in Roswell and was an avid collector of Hummel figurines. Most of her time since John's retirement, however, was spent traveling with John in their Airstream trailer throughout the Northern Hemisphere as active members of the Wally Byum Caravan Club International and the Albuquerque Regional Chapter. They took their last trip about four months before John's passing.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda L. Mastin of New Windsor, NY; son, Wayne A. Mastin and wife, Michelle of Beverly, MA; sister, Ann E. Callanan of Quincy, MA; grandchildren: Brian, Sean, Kelly, and Bridget Mastin; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the local Alzheimer's Associations in Jane Mastin's name.
