Jerry Coppola Obituary
Jerry played football in high school and was a candidate to play professionally when World War II broke out and he was drafted. He served as a combat soldier in Oro Bay and Aitape, New Guiena, South Pacific and Mindanao, Philippines from 1942 to 1945 with an honorable discharge, from the 124th Infantry, 31st Dixie Division. Upon arriving back in the States, he married Anna Rose De Geovana on February 2, 1949; she predeceased him in 1991. His son Anthony also predeceased him in 1985.
He is survived by his daughter RoseAnn Coppola Highland, grandchildren Jerry and wife Lisa Podeszedlik, Jennifer and husband Mark Garcia, T.J. and Tonya Dirago and John Rivera. Great-grandchildren Frankie Gallipo, Kayla Witzel and Megan Podeszedlik. He is also survived by his siblings, Tomasina Stoppini, Highland; Alfred Coppola, Scottsdale, AZ and Dolores Lembo, Modena and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jerry was a member of St. James Church in Milton and St. Augustine Church in Highland, The American Legion of Highland and VFW of Highland and New Paltz. Jerry enjoyed his vegetable garden, making Sunday sauce, playing cards and especially opening day at the Saratoga Race Track. He loved to entertain his family and friends and always had a smile on his face and a joke or two. He touched many people in his life and will always have an imprint on the Village of Highland.
Jerry was predeceased by his siblings Catherine (Kay) Gallo and husband Noble, Carmilla (Millie) Bennici and husband Paul, Joseph Coppola and wife Donatella, Amedio (Chubby) Coppolas and wife Marion and Eugene Coppola.
Calling hours are Wed. August 15 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home Inc., 38 Main St., Highland.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. James Church in Milton with Father Fred Kempfirl as the celebrant.
Burial will follow in Modena Rural Cemetery, Route 32, Modena, N.Y.

RoseAnn and family, we are so sorry to hear of Jerry's passing. We looked forward to his visits at our place in Modena. He was always fun to be with and that's a wonderful way to be remembered.
