Joan Moore Obituary

Joan Evelyn Moore
April 13,1932 - July 9, 2021
Pine Bush, New York
Our beloved mother, Joan Evelyn Moore was born to John and Alice Mylock on April 13, 1932. She was raised in Queens, NY, where she married her High School sweetheart, Warren Moore. Five years later they moved to Pine Bush. In 1960, Joan and Warren moved to Rt. 52 in Walker Valley and lived there until she passed away on July 9, 2021.
Joan was a tough, industrious, frugal woman and a fanatical recycler. She raised six children, loved to sew, bake, knit, and garden. She worked by Warren's side to grow a successful construction business, where she kept the books and he built and renovated homes in the area.
She also supported the community as the local seamstress, altering everything from police uniforms to formal gowns. She knitted and donated over a 1,000 warm baby hats to local area hospitals.
She loved her Yankees and once called George Steinbrenner to give him a piece of her mind about how the Yanks were doing that year. She was very competitive and loved tracking stats for the soft-ball league in which she and Warren played. They won prizes for square-dancing, and many scrabble tournaments. She adored playing games with her family and they will miss her thoughtful handmade gifts and her famous fruitcakes at Christmas.
Joan is survived by her children: Warren (Rita), Richard (Rosie), Donald (Christine), Jerry, Nancy (Lance), Suzy (Jon); 15 grandchildren: Melanie, Andrea, Elissa, Sera, Nigel, Stella, Theo, Daniella, Joanna, Siena, Jessica, Jennifer, Samantha, Paige and Bjorn; and 12 great-grandchildren: Sierra, Dylan, Alex, Julia, Cora, Aaron, Eme, Jlynn, Emelia, Aria, Amelia, and Aiden; her sister, Elaine; nieces and cousin. Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband.
As she preferred simple celebrations, the family will honor her with a private service. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties. This is a wonderful organization that made her comfortable, allowed her to stay home and be cared for in the end, with the help of her wonderful aide Sophia.
