John Lachat Obituary

Greenwood Lake - John Joseph Lachat, Jr. of Monroe, a route man for Utz Quality Foods, and a long-time resident of Greenwood Lake, died tragically on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 as a result of a car accident. He was 32 years old.

The son of John and Jean Lachat, he was born on July 10, 1975 in Queens, N.Y.

John was an avid bowler, belonging to the American Bowling Association as well as the League at Frontier Lanes in Warwick where he was known as "Junior" amongst his fellow bowlers. His ultimate goal was the elusive "300", but still managed to attain three "800" series. A proud son, he was quick to tell anyone who would listen about how he learned the game from his dad and returned the favor by teaching his father how to play golf. Bowling wasn't the only sport that John and his father shared a love for. They closely followed baseball, football, and hockey. John was a staunch supporter of the NY Yankees, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Philadelphia Flyers.

Among those whose hearts have been broken by this loss are his much beloved wife, Linda, and their beautiful baby daughter, Lacie, his step-sons, whom he loved as his own, Michael & Joshua, and his cherished parents, John & Jean Lachat of Greenwood Lake. He will also be sadly missed by his parents-in-law, William & Kathleen Varian; his paternal grandparents, John & Ellen Lachat; and his maternal grandmother, Jean Bieber - all of Warwick; his brothers and sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and countless friends. His maternal grandfather, Joseph Bieber, predeceased him.

Visitation hours will be held from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. on Monday, December 10 at the Strong-Basile Funeral Home, 4 Oak St., in Greenwood Lake, N.Y.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 11 at the Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Warwick Cemetery in Warwick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the John Joseph Lachat Jr. Memorial Fund, c/o Key Bank, PO Box 220, Warwick, NY 10990.

Arrangements are under the care of Strong-Basile Funeral Home. 845-986-4632

I am sorry for your loss. I drove the same route as he did for Wise Snacks. He was always fun to talk baseball with. We had a brief talk on Tuesday about the Yankees and I left in hurry forgetting to say goodbye. He was a huge Yankee fan like myself and I will miss him out on the route.

John, Jeannie and Family,
My heart breaks for you all. I remember him still as a little guy. Running around in his underware. Always on the go. He seems to have turned out to be a fine young man. I am sure you are so proud of him. His memories are now treasures. No one can ever take those away. Please know you are in my thoughts.

John was a great guy. It is not right for a life to end at such a young age. I kind of lost track of John over the last couple of year. I never meet his wife or child - but I do know that John was a great guy and must have been a wonderful husband, father and son. I knew John as a bowler and friend. I have thought a lot about him over the last couple of days and I am very lucky to concider him my friend. He will be missed but will always be with us.

Rest in peace my friend

There are no words to express how much John will be missed. He was a wonderful son, husband, new father and a fiercely loyal friend. Hearts are broken in North Carolina as well. May the Lord hold his family close during this horrible time. We love you, John.

To John & Jean, so sorry to hear about this. I didn't know John Jr but I didn't know he was an avid bowler like you & I were. Anyway, may Jr rest in peace & may God be at his & your family's side forever. God Bless
