John Sears Obituary

New Windsor, NY

John J. Sears Jr., of New Windsor, entered into rest on Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence, Newburgh. He was 84.

Son of the late John J. and Mary Sears Sr., he was born April 23, 1923 in Taunton, MA. He was married to late Virginia M. Sears.

John proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II, being one of the first paratroopers to land behind the Rhine.

A businessman for many years, John was the founder of Sears Restaurant Supply, Newburgh, which he operated for 30 years. He was also a member of the Softball Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his brother, Joseph Sears Sr. and his wife, Lydia of Newburgh; sister, Mrs. Grace Carver of Marlboro; nieces and nephews, Phylis McIntosh of New City, NY, Jeanne McIntosh of Barre, VT, James J. Cooney Jr. of Lexington Park, MD, Moira Jean Betterton of Middlehope, NY, Joseph C. Carver of Marlboro, NY, Charles H. Carver of Newburgh, Joseph Sears Jr. of Oxford, CT, Karen McCormack of Highland Falls, William and James Delbaugh of Denver, CO, Elaine D'Aprile of Newburgh, Michael Comicz of Walden, Michele Miranda of Florida, Joan, Raymond and Keith Hilliard, all of Thomasville, NC; and several great nieces and nephews.
