Josephine Neary Obituary
Sr. Josephine Neary (Sr. Mary Jude), of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in New Windsor, entered into rest on Tuesday, May 1, 2007 in Mount St. Joseph's, New Windsor. She was 92.
Daughter of the late William and Anna Marie (Rushe) Neary, she was born March 2, 1915 in New York City.
Sr. Josephine entered into Religious Life on September 8, 1936 at Mount St. Joseph in New Windsor. She made First Vows on April 13, 1939 and Final Vows on April 13, 1942. She was a graduate of Aquinas High School, Class of 1931; Manhattan College, Class of 1944, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education; and Fordham University, Class of 1950, earning her Master's Degree in Religious Education. She served her Ministry in Teaching at Mount St. Joseph's in New Windsor, St. Michael's High School in Manhattan, Presentation Junior College in New Windsor and St. Joseph School in New Windsor. She served as Mistress of Novices from 1950-66, Assistant Mother General from 1965-74, and Secretary General from 1975-83.
Survivors include her sister, Mrs. Eileen Canovatchel of Raliegh, N.C.; and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
A wake will be held from 2-4 and 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 3 at Mount St. Joseph, New Windsor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 4 in Mount St. Joseph Chapel, New Windsor. Burial will follow in Mount St. Joseph Cemetery, New Windsor.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions on Sr. Josephine's behalf may be sent to Sisters of the Presentation, Ministry Fund, 880 Jackson Ave., New Windsor, NY 12553.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares your grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself … any man’s death diminishes me".
