MARY BROWN Obituary
New Windsor, NY
Sr. Mary Virginia Brown of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, New Windsor, entered into rest on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh Campus. She was 89.
Daughter of the late Joseph and Helen Brown, she was born on May 19, 1921 in New York City.
She entered religious life on January 23, 1942 at Mount St. Joseph in New Windsor; professed her first vows on August 15, 1944 and final vows on August 15, 1947. Sister received her Bachelors degree from Manhattan College in 1950 and her Masters in Education from Plattsburg State University in 1973.
Sr. Mary Virginia's ministry includes, Teacher and Principal of Holy Rosary Elementary School, Bronx; Teacher and Principal of St. Paul's Elementary School, Yonkers; Teacher at St. Mary's School, Kingston and Our Lady of Solace School, Bronx; Assistant Principal of St. John's School, Yonkers; School Secretary of Annunciation School, Crestwood; and Secretary of the Archdiocesan Building Commission, New York City. She retired in 2005 and lived at the Retirement Center at Mount St. Joseph.
Survivors include her sister, Helen Pike of Charlotte, NC; niece, Virginia Wellenzohn and her husband of Buffalo, NY; nephews, Bert Pike and his wife of Matthews, NC, and Robert Pike of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
Visitation will be held from 3–7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 18, in the Mount St. Joseph Chapel, 84 Presentation Way, New Windsor. A prayer service will take place at 7 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 19, in the Mount St. Joseph Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount St. Joseph Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of the Presentation, 84 Presentation Way, New Windsor, NY 12553.

Dear Sisters,
Both my brother Arthur and myself had Sr. Mary Virginia as our first grade teacher at Holy Rosary back in the mid-40's. I visited her many times over the summers in New Windsor and she was always the same lovely person. There is a special place in heaven for someone like her who could give so much love and education to a class of over 90 wonderful tykes like us.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any man's death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
