Mary Costas Obituary

Fishkill, NY

Mary Costas, 85 of Fishkill, and a former longtime resident of Beacon, died Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Born in Cyprus on July 14, 1924, she was the daughter of Charalambos and Eleni Panagides.

On October 13, 1946 at St. George's Church in Cyprus, she married John Costas. Mr. Costas predeceased her on February 2, 1995.

Mrs. Costas was employed as a parts inspector for Chemprene in Beacon for many years. Mary was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Newburgh. She was also an active member of The Order of the Eastern Star for many years.

Mary was the devoted mother of Stella Kaselis and her husband, Gus of Fishkill and Christina Kokiasmenos of Wappinger's Falls; beloved grandmother of John, Maria, Irene and her husband, Paul, Nicole and her husband, Abrahim, Maria and her husband, Ryan; cherished great-grandmother of George and Chloe. Also surviving is a niece Eleni and nephew Charalambos; as well as her cousin, Charalambos Peratikos of Beacon and Anna Markou of Cyprus and numerous other relatives living in Cyprus. Mary was predeceased by her son-in-law, George Kokiasmenos in 2004; and her sister, Despina Christodoulou.

Visiting hours will be on Friday, February 12, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Robert H. Auchmoody Funeral Home, 1028 Main St., Fishkill.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 13, at 10 a.m. at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 19 Fullerton Ave., Newburgh. Interment will follow in Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
