Maureen Sassi Obituary
Maureen Gobeo Sassi, a retired teacher of the Middletown City School District, and a lifelong area resident, entered into rest on Friday, March 5, 2010, at her home in Goshen, NY after a short illness. She was 49 years of age.
Born September 2, 1960 in Middletown, she was the daughter of the late Charles P. "Chubby" Gobeo and the late Jean Rosenstein Gobeo.
Maureen was an early retired teacher of the Middletown City School District in order to become the greatest mom, wife, sister and friend anyone could ever ask for. She was a tireless advocate for her handicapped son and best friend to her daughter. She loved both beyond words. She will be deeply missed.
She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, and the Orange County Golf Club.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 25 years, Norman Martin Sassi; her son, Michael; her daughter, Jenna; her sister, Denise Davock and her husband, James of Medway, MA; her mother-in-law, Elaine Sassi; her brothers-in-law: Robert C. Sassi and his wife, Patricia of Pine Bush, Stephen D. Sassi and his wife, Lisa of Myrtle Beach, SC; nieces, Lauren Smith and Katherine "Katy" Sassi; nephews: Matthew Sassi, James Davock III, Connor Davock, Trevor Davock and Aidan Davock. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends may call at the Cornelius, Dodd and Connell Funeral Home, 26 Grove St., Middletown, today, Monday, March 8, from 3 to 8 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 9, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Euclid Ave. Ext., Middletown, with The Rev. Patrick McGuigan O'Carm, celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Middletown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Center for Discovery, PO Box 840, Harris, NY 12742, which is the school and residence of her beloved life work, Michael.

We were shocked and deeply saddened to learn of Maureen's passing. As you know we were very long time neighbors, first with the Gobeo family, and then when Maureen and Marty married and moved a house away from us, and were then blessed with their children Michael and Jenna. It has been many, many years since I have seen Maureen. My Mom, Rosalie French (Rosalie Gobeo Slater) sent me the information from the Record newspaper and I remember the family living over by the "now" Middletown High School. I remember Uncle Chubby very much and knew there were at least 2 girls in the Gobeo Family. We all know Maureen is at peace and may God assist you in the time of sorrow.

I had the rare pleasure of Maureen's company whenever she came into Monte's office. She was a hurricane of positivity and a natural comedienne. Despite the challenges life presented to her, she always had an encouraging word, a happy spin on the daily grind, and an aura of all that is beautiful in life surrounding her.
