Olga M. Dillon Mathews (nee Smereka), 89, Saddle River, NJ, formerly of Glen Rock, NJ, Cornwall, NY, Fort Meade, MD, Haverstraw, NY, and Brooklyn, NY, died peacefully on Saturday, March 7, 2009.

Olga was the beloved wife of the late John Percy Dillon and of the late Colonel Harry T. "Smoky" Mathews; loving mother of Mary Dillon of Haverstraw, NY, Ann Dillon Tannous and her husband, Alan of Glen Rock, NJ, Dr. Sharon Dillon Mastafiak and her husband, David of Clayton, NC and Dr. Thomas G. Mathews, Colonel, U.S. Army retired and his wife, Adriana of Lee's Summit, MO; loving grandmother of Douglas Dillon, Caitlin and Christine Mastafiak, Andrew Mathews and his wife, Michelle, Helen Mathews Roop and her husband, Dr. Garret Roop, and Catherine Mathews Rupp and her husband, Aaron; loving great-grandmother of Cy and Sicily Mathews, Ellie Roop, and Evan, Gavin and Leila Rupp; loving sister of Helen Smereka of Saddle River, NJ, and the late Anna Smereka (Peter) Matechak of Brooklyn, NY, the late Mary Smereka (Nicholas) Zacharkiw of Morristown, NJ and the late Wasyl Smereka of Brooklyn, NY. She is also survived by loving nieces, Olga Zacharkiw Garey, her husband, Robert and daughter, Alexandra, and Martha Matechak Selivan and her sons, Paul and Mark, and loving nephews, Stephen Zacharkiw, Robert Dillon and his wife, Mary Lou, and loving grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and friends.

Olga was born in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn, NY to the late Simeon and Martha Zacharkow Smereka. She loved reading, poetry (reading and writing), music, movies, crossword, puzzles, laughter, and being with family and friends. She was warm and loving, and had a wonderful sense of humor. She retired as manager of the Health Insurance Office of Letchworth Village in Thiells, NY in 1975.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 11, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home, Rt 9W (73 N. Liberty Drive). Stony Point, NY.

A Funeral Mass will be offered Thursday, March 12, at 11:30 a.m. at the St. Peter's R.C. Church, 115 Broadway, Haverstraw, NY. Interment will be at the St. Peter's Cemetery, Haverstraw, NY.
