Rocco Colandrea Obituary

Rocco S. Colandrea, 80, a Newburgh area resident for most of his life, died August 6, 2005 at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

Son of the late Cosimo Colandrea and Carmella Costagliola, he was born July 4, 1925 in Newburgh, N.Y.

Rocco began as an area farmer who later developed an expertise for landscaping. As Colandrea Landscaping, Inc., he completed several large area commercial and residential contracts, including one area golf course and many Hudson Valley Schools.

It has been said that Rocco taught his nephews, whom he had employed from time to time, the importance of a strict work ethic and the value of a dollar.

In his sixties, taking a cue from one of his nephews, he relocated to Northern California to impart his gift of gab into a younger man's field of auto sales. Here he achieved many awards for his sales performance with luxury/import automobiles.

Returing to New York to be near his family, Rocco continued in auto sales until his retirement.

Rocco was a loving husband and father. He truly enjoyed life and the people he came in contact with on a daily basis. His presence will be deeply missed by his family, close friends and acquaintances. We love you, Rocco. May God now hold you in the palm of His hand.

Mr. Colandrea was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Newburgh, N.Y.

He is survived by two daughters, Rhoda Colandrea of Wallkill, and Lita Colandrea of Colorado; his former wife, Marilyn Belport Colandrea of Arizona; a brother, Louis and Bernice Greene Colandrea of the Town of Newburgh; two sisters, Lucy Bolognese of the Town of Newburgh, and Lena and Emil Casilli of Cornwall; his grandchildren: Reneé, Geofry and Danielle; his good friend, Tony Columbo; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the widower of Rose Rotundo Marrizzto Colandrea. He was also predeceased by one brother, Edward Colandrea, and two sisters, Mary Romano and Rose Zuchowski.

Visitation will be held on Monday August 8, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at The DiDonato Funeral Home, 1290 Route 9W, Marlboro, N.Y.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 9 at 11:00 AM in the Sacred Heart Church, Newburgh, N.Y., followed by burial at the Calvary Cemetery in New Windsor.

Memorial donations in Rocco's name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 95 Schwenk Dr., Kingston, NY 12401.
