Evelyn Edith Beugnot
Green Valley, AZ
April 27, 1920 - August 16, 2021
Evelyn Edith Beugnot, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and wife left us to join her late husband, Jack, on August 16th, 2021, at Arroyo Gardens in Green Valley, AZ, at the age of 101.
She was born in Cheboygan, MI, on April 27th, 1920, the daughter of Frank and Bertha (Knaggs) Jewell. She attended school in Elberta, MI, playing basketball, cheerleading, and eventually meeting the love of her life, Jack Beugnot. They were married Aug. 30th, 1940, and later blessed with two daughters, Sally and Kay. Evelyn worked hard alongside Jack building their first home in Elberta, MI, and then their dream home on Bellows Ave. in Frankfort, MI, where they lived for many years. When Evelyn retired from her long career at the Elberta Post Office and Jack retired from the railroad, the couple began heading south for the winter, eventually settling in Green Valley, AZ. They enjoyed their retirement by golfing, hiking, playing cards, and with long walks in the desert together. Evelyn and Jack especially looked forward to visits from family and friends to generously share their home and hospitality.
Evelyn loved horseback riding, singing old songs, gardening, yoga, and golfing – she especially enjoyed card games, making sure that all her children and grandchildren learned to play cribbage and pinochle at a young age. As an avid youth basketball player, Evelyn was also a huge fan of the Arizona Wildcats, rarely missing a game. Evelyn instilled a love of friendly competition that has been passed down through generations. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh – a sound that we will surely miss!
Evelyn is survived by daughters: Sally (Ole) Velde of Granite Falls, MN., Kay (Jim) Bonnell of Mt. Pleasant, MI.; grandchildren: Tim Velde of Granite Falls, Julie (Brad) Kimball and Tom (Sarah) Velde of Fergus Falls, MN., Rob (Jessica) Velde of Morris, MN. and Dana (Rick) Gonzales of Melbourne, FL; 10 great-grandchildren and "almost" 4 great-great grandchildren. Evelyn is also survived by sisters Fran (Jerry) Johnson of Frankfort, MI, Barb Morrow of San Clemente CA, sister-in-law Bernice Beugnot of Elberta MI and many nieces and nephews.
Evelyn has left behind a legacy of love and memories of a life well-lived - our family has lost its icon!
At Evelyn's request there will be no services. Our heartfelt thanks to Arroyo Gardens and Hospice Family Care and the wonderful people there.
