Richard Blodgett Obituary

Richard Blodgett
March 31, 2022
Richard Allan "Rick" Blodgett, 62, of Thompsonville, MI, died on March 31, 2022, in his home surrounded by his family after a long battle with Cancer. Born September 15th, 1959, at Highland Park, Detroit MI to Richard and Elizabeth Blodgett Siblings: Mary (Christie), Lee, Karen, Kevin, Linda, Mark, and Patricia (Patti). When Rick was a boy, every Christmas or Easter the kids had to wait upstairs for everyone to wake up. Patti remembers waiting at the top of the stairs every holiday waiting for Rick to wake up. She said he was always the last one to wake up. Rick graduated from Farmington High School in 1977. He married Kathryn McCarthy on May 27th, 1989, at United Methodist Church, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Rick was a military veteran and a true patriot. He served on USS Dwight D Eisenhower where he received two Navy "E" award, Navy Unit Commendation award, Navy and Marine Corps expeditionary medal, and sea deployment ribbon (second and third), Navy expeditionary (first and second) medal, Navy "E" ribbon (Second), sea service deployment ribbon with two star, and Navy unit commendation. After his honorable discharge in 1993, Rick started a career with AT&T and retired in 2020 with 27 years of service. Rick loved hunting, fishing, and golfing. In his younger years he enjoyed playing darts, basketball, softball, and bowling. He also enjoyed watching many sports. Rick help raise two very competent children, who are great citizens of the world. Rick was quick witted and funny. He always had a smart comeback to any comment. His daughter, Becca, is thankful for all the comebacks he gave her. When his granddaughter Kayla was young, he would quote E.T. and touch Kayla on the nose and say, "be good." Rick was comically the pickiest eater that always claimed that he was not a picky eater. When he was a baby, he would line the underside of his plate with his peas, so it looked like he ate them all. But when the plate was cleared after dinner all his peas would come rolling out. He is survived by his wife Kathryn McCarthy; children Michael (Jessica) Twiss of Worland, Wyoming and Rebecca (Matthew) Richardson of Lake Ann; grandchildren Kayla Twiss, Hayden Reichel, Memphis Crawford and Alivia Richardson; parents Richard and Elizabeth Blodgett; siblings Mary (Bill) Maule, Lee (Jill) Blodgett, Kevin (Wendy) Blodgett, Linda (Tim) Kulawiak, Mark (Misha) Blodgett, and Patricia (Pete) Goudey; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sibling Karen Blodgett, nephew Jordan Blodgett and niece Sarah Clark. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm Saturday, April 30 at the Jowett Family Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by Jowett Family Funeral Home.
