Ron Evitts, age 67, of Thompsonville passed away Monday, November 22, 2021 at Munson Medical Center. He was born January 31, 1954 in Alma, the son of Lester and Alice Evitts. Ron was a 1972 graduate of Vestaburg High School where he excelled in many sports. He retired from the Benzie County Road Commission as state highway foreman and served his community as Colfax Township Supervisor from 2010-2020. Ron especially enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved being outdoors whether it was on his tractor or mower in the summer heat or blowing snow (he called it the "lovely white stuff") in the cold of winter. He made paths around the house in the snow for Shiloh to run and to spread corn and hay for the deer that knew the sound of the opening garage door was the dinner bell. September, though, and "fish camp" on the Betsie River during the salmon run was unquestionably his favorite time of year. Ron really enjoyed those days with family and friends, swapping fish stories around a bonfire and sharing smoked salmon which everyone loved. He was known for his many one-line sayings but, above all, will be remembered for his kind and caring nature and was always ready to lend a helping hand. Ron is survived by fianceé Shelley Greene and their beloved fur baby Shiloh, daughter Heather (Matt) Frazier, grandson Corbin Frazier, sister Dawn Humphrey and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by both his parents and sister Janet Hoffman. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 30 at 12 noon at the Colfax Township cemetery, 18200 Karlin Road, in Thompsonville, followed by a Celebration of Life at Ron and Shelley's home starting at 1 PM.
