Susan Durant Obituary

Susan K. Durant
10/18/2025
Susan K Durant, 68, left this earth to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, October 18, 2025. Formerly of Lake Ann, "Sue" moved back to Kaleva to be closer to family.
She was preceded in death by: her son, Benaiah Durant; step-son, William "Billy" Durant; granddaughter, Emily Ishmael; beloved husband, William "Bill" Durant; and father Robert Somsel. Sue is survived by: her mother, Diane Somsel; siblings, David (Jeanette) and Donny (Maria) Somsel, Sandy (Paul) Shyposki, Sherry (John) Boucher, Ed (Linda) Durant, Carol (Bill Lawrence) Troia and Linda Durant; daughter, Rebecca Durant; step-daughter, Rebecca "Beckie" Richards; and many nieces and nephews.
Sue learned piano at the age of five. She could read and write music, play by ear, pick up almost any instrument & play it fluently. She played piano, guitar & harmonica. Her daughter often found interesting instruments in her travels and brought them home for her.
Sue was the pianist at Homestead Community Church for many years. She played special music often at other churches, gatherings, nursing homes etc. She also took sign languages classes & was a part of Toastmasters. Sue loved to collect various items that helped with overseas missions and helped make yearly care packages to send to those in need.
Her appreciation of nature & Gods creation was profound, seeing it as God's handiwork and often said thanks for it. Sue was (and is) a prayer warrior for the hurting, lost/unsaved and anyone who needed help. She helped many people throughout her life. She prayed daily for family and friends that they would also find the Love, Compassion, Grace and Glory that only Jesus provides. Her wish was that her entire earthly family & friends will join her in Heaven someday.
January of 2024, Sue was diagnosed with cancer. Although it was removed, other cancers formed and were too aggressive to be reversed despite nine months of chemo. Her body was too small to withstand the effects and in the last week of her life was excited to pass through those pearly gates. God Bless you Sue, you will be missed dearly.
IN ALL THINGS GIVE THANKS!
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Kaleva Bible Church on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM.

I came to know Sue when I joined a women’s Bible study group that met in Brethren. Her spirit and love for God and knowledge of the Bible was infectious and our spirits connected immediately. I have never known anyone who was so excited for and wishing that she could witness the Second Coming of Christ. I am certain she will have a sacred vantage point when that blessed day arrives. Thank you for being my friend, Sue, and a true sister in Christ.
