CHARLES KETCHUM

1948 - 2009

Charles Alan Ketchum passed away at Mercy Hospital in Redding October 2, 2009 after a year long battle against tonsil cancer. Charly was born May 2, 1948 in Richmond, California, but in 1956 moved with his family to Manton where he lived most of his adult life.

He was co-owner of a commercial printing business for the last 31 years. Prior to that he had worked for the U.S. Forest Service. He was a graduate of the New York School of Photography, accomplished in graphic arts, and painted oils and watercolors. He was always ready for a camping trip to the Sierras, with camera in hand. But the passion of his life was caring for animals.

Whether it was a sick bird, or (illegally) feeding local black tail deer, raising chickens, pigeons, geese, and of course dogs & cats, he was always there for helpless "critters". To that end he used his graphic art & computer skills to build and maintain a website for The Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Central Florida, which has long been connected to Disney World in Orlando.

He was also a 43 year member of the Loomis Grange.

He is survived by: Frank White, his spouse, friend, and companion of 31 years; his sister Maureen MacPartland of Union City; two brothers, Frank Ketchum of Blocker, Oklahoma, and Dennis Ketchum and wife Elaine of Prescott Valley, Arizona; also niece Cindy Gonzales and her children, Sofia, Emily, and Milo of Manton; nephews David & Evelyn Riley of Union City, Rick Ketchum of Blocker, Okahoma, Dennis Ketchum, & Paul, Daniel, & John Ketchum; nieces Lisa (Ketchum) Green of Oklahoma, Kim (Riley) Dance & husband Bob of Sparks, Nevada, & Debbie Britton of Clayton; and finally 1st cousin Barbara (Shaw) Dominguez of Roseburg, Oregon. Also many other cousins including Michael Lander of Myrtle Creek, Oregon.

A celebration of life & buffet lunch will be held Saturday, October 10, 2:00 PM at the Manton Grange Hall on Forward Rd. in Manton. Family, friends, & neighbors are invited to come and share memories.
