Benjamin Wellock Obituary

Benjamin Taylor Wellock, born May 9, 1982, Redding, CA, passed away September 1, 2009, in Weaverville, CA. Born the sixth child, third and youngest son of David and Peggy Wellock of Lewiston, he leaves behind his loving parents, Dave and Peggy, sister Alicia Muhr, her husband Rich, niece Madeline and nephew Quincy of Poway, CA. He also leaves sister Shannon Taylor and her husband Bryan and their three girls, nieces, Riley, Eva and Avery, of Weaverville. He also leaves brother Brian Wellock and three nephews, Chris, Curtis and Taylor of Redding and Lewiston. He also leaves brother Dr. Matthew Wellock, wife Jill, and their four sons, his nephews, Jackson, Truman, Dan and Stuart, and niece Jenna, from Olympia, WA.
Ben was proceeded in death by his oldest sister, Melanie Perry, who also left her husband Doug Perry and two nephews, Kyle and Zack, all of Santa Rosa, CA. Ben is survived by aunts, uncles and cousins too numerous to list.
He loved all his nieces and nephews and they loved and respected him in return.
Ben had many special friends and acquaintances, including people in the Lewiston area where he lived and grew up. Many were like surrogate parents to him, especially Terry and Margie Lee, plus neighbors that supported and cared for and about him in great numbers. He was also very blessed to have two special friends, Jen and Jessica, who both knew and loved him well, as he loved both of them. Ben graduated from Lewiston Elementary in 1996, attended and graduated from Trinity High School in 2000, where he excelled in football and friendships, some extending over 13 years. He attended Shasta College and received his AA degree several years later. For the last four years, he worked in building construction, first for Paul Scribner, then for Bob Thompson and most recently for Larry Shaw, all men of honor and integrity who freely shared their knowledge of construction with him. They were truly mentors to him and he greatly appreciated this of them. A stickler for neatness and perfection, he kept his home and his belongings in pristine order. A most special possession and love of his was his beautiful, teal blue '56 Ford pickup, which he and his dad spent many years restoring to near perfect show condition. Many father/son hours were spent working on "the" truck and these hours only bonded their closeness. Not many sons get to enjoy the memories of an experience like this, and both of them cherished this time spent together, working to create mechanical perfection and looks, as well as many memories. He will be missed by friends and classmates and he will be remembered by his off-beat sense of humor, love of challenges and his fondness for all old cars. Please remember Ben with fondness and sweet memories. Life can be short. Live it without regrets. Cherish your friends and family. That's what Ben would want and what he would tell you if he could. Services will be held Sunday, September 6, 2009, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Mormon Lane in Weaverville, at 2 p.m. Interment will be at the Lewiston Cemetery, on Rush Creek Road, near Lewiston. A luncheon for all family and friends will be provided at the LDS church following graveside services.

I remember the many fantastic memories growing up in Lewiston and many of those memories at your house. I can't imagine the sadness you feel. Always remember, God is here in spirit with us and more importantly side by side with those who have gone before us.

I have known your family since I was a kid and remember Ben mostly as a toddler, as he is quite a bit younger than I. What a handsome young man he was then, and what he has grown into. My heart goes out to this family with love and admiration. May you find peace in Jesus Christ for this loss and know that young Ben is now with his big sister Melanie, in the heavens. Hugs Peggy and Dave.
